Adjective
Adjective adalah kata yang menggambarkan sifat dari sebuah kata benda (noun), atau secara singkat adjective diartikan sebagai kata sifat. Sebuah kata benda dapat memiliki satu atau lebih adjective yang mengikutinya.
Contoh :
1. Kata benda dengan satu adjective
- I meet the young man who helped me yesterday.
- I bought a white shoes last month.
- You have a great smile.
- I want to buy a new computer.
- I went to Bali last holiday, so many beautiful beaches there.
2. Kata benda dengan dua adjective
- You’re a smart little girl.
- Where did you buy your blue cotton shirts?
- I like your big blue eyes.
- My dad has made this small square table.
- This is an expensive black bag.
3. Kata benda dengan lebih dari dua adjective
- He is a clever tall young man.
- You look good in your new red furry skirt.
- You have beautiful big brown eyes.
- My mom buy this nice old wooden furniture for our new home.
- Why did you buy this odd yellow leather pants?
Adverb
Jika adjective adalah kata yang menerangkan sebuah kata benda (noun), maka lain halnya dengan adverb. Adverb adalah kata yang menjelaskan kata kerja (verb), adverb disebut juga sebagai kata keterangan. Adverb terdiri dari beberapa jenis yaitu diantaranya, adverb of manner, adverb of frequency, adverb of time, dan adverb of place.
Contoh dari masing-masing adverb dapat dilihat di bawah ini:
1. Adverb of manner
- I must study hard for the final exam.
- He drives carefully to avoid an accident.
- She walks slowly because the floor is wet and slippery.
- Raisa sings beautifully in her concert.
- The teacher speaks loudly in front of the class.
2. Adverb of frequency
- I always study every night.
- My mom always go to grandmother’s house every weekend.
- My dad always read a newspaper every day.
- I always hang out with my friends every Sunday.
- We always have breakfast together every morning.
3. Adverb of time
- I can’t go to school today.
- Please, send me an e-mail tomorrow.
- We went to Bali yesterday.
- I am watching a movie right now.
- She came to Jakarta two days ago.
4. Adverb of place
- Some students are studying in the library now.
- Isyana is singing on the stage.
- I have lived in Jakarta for 20 years.
- The train is arriving at the station.
- Do you want to come for dinner in my home today?
